How to Make Your Pansies Bloom Like Crazy

It has finally cooled down here in Oxford, Mississippi and Pansies have taken center stage as the bedding flower of choice! I LOVE everything about these adorable flowers, from their unique "faces", their delicate smell and the fact that they are edible.

I'm going to share with you 2 easy ways to make your pansies bloom like crazy this season. It all comes down to deadheading and fertilizing.

Watch this video to get a good picture of my deadheading technique:

The first thing I do in this video is to find the stem of the flower. I am looking for the one with faded petals or with the petals already fallen off. Slide your fingers down to the base of the stem and pinch it off. This will signal the plant that it's job of setting seed isn't done and it will be motivated to push more blooms.

The next important step for maximum bloomage is the FERTILIZE! You can do a weekly water soluble fertilizer, but I am kinda lazy and prefer this slow release fertilizer. I don't have to worry about burning the plants by using too much, I just sprinkle it around my flowers before I lay down a layer of mulch. How easy is that! Making blooms is a lot of work and the plants need the energy the fertilizer provides to be their best Pansy selves!

Here in Oxford, Pansies will flower well into April, so can get a long season of color! And now you have the knowledge to make your Pansy beds look thier best this season! If all this seems overwhelming or you want us to come out and do the work for you, just shoot me an email and we will get you taken care of.
